Varbola was built in 1998 for the Estonian Shipping Company, for chartering to other operators. She was sold in 2005 to Elmira Shipping & Trading which renamed her RR Arrow.

On 23rd December 2005, she was chartered out for the first time to Condor Ferries, replacing one of its two RoRo ferries on the Portsmouth – Channel Islands service. Seatruck Ferries purchased her on 30th October 2007 for €15 millions and renamed her Arrow. Condor Ferries chartered her again in 2010 and in 2013.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company chartered her from May 2012 to be operated as a replacement ship for their Ben My Chree on services to the Isle of Man. Her charter was renewed in October 2013, with an option of purchase at the end of the charter. This agreement began on 28th April 2014. However, as she is a replacement vessel, she is often anchored off the coast of the Isle of Man. She is thus sometimes sub-chartered out to other operators.

Following Commodore Clipper’s grounding on 14th July 2014, Arrow was chartered to replace her from 31st July, operated alongside MN Toucan and Commodore Goodwill.

In order to enable the installation of scrubbers on both Commodore Clipper and Commodore Goodwill, Arrow has been chartered in by Condor Ferries from 10th September 2015, until 14th November. However, due to scrubbers being delivered behind schedule, her chartered was renewed until 14th December 2015, in order to replace Commodore Clipper that had to go back in Dy Dock. Arrow was then chartered once again between 19th June and 3rd July 2016 to replace Commodore Goodwill, whilst she was being equipped.
